Micah 1:1
We begin our study on the book of Micah by examining how the circumstances in the prophet’s day, in many ways, parallels our own. Therefore, the words the Lord speaks through Micah are timely words that we need to hear today. As God’s people we must not only believe right, but also behave right. We must also learn how to engage our culture with true Biblical discernment, so that we are not swayed by philosophies and ideologies which are inconsistent with the Gospel.

Micah 1–3
The prophet Micah denounces both the sins of the people against the Lord and the corrupt leaders. He reminds them that God desires His people to act with true justice and righteousness. God desires that His people act consistent with His character. This means that any “justice” that does not link itself with true righteousness, as God defines it, is ultimately misguided. As Christians today, let us submit ourselves to God’s ways in all that we do!

Micah 4-5
God’s judgment was coming upon Judah for their sin and rebellion. However, Micah shares a message that a Messiah will come to execute true justice and righteousness. He reveals that the only real answer to the chaos and corruption is this coming King. Like Micah’s day, the answer to the problems we face in our culture is not resolved through human reason or efforts by social justice warriors, but only through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

Micah 6:8
What does God require of His people? Today we will learn about the expectations that God has of us. The only way we can fulfill God’s requirements is by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Gospel is central to our mission as Christians, and this means that we do justice and preach grace. Salvation is not faith plus works, but rather a “working faith” that seeks to love and serve those around us.

Micah 6:8
This week we will do a deep dive into the clear distinctions between ideological “social justice” and true “Biblical justice” in order to demonstrate that they are incompatible. While Micah reveals to us that we must “do justice,” we must have discernment regarding ways in which God’s true justice must be lived out. We cannot be taken captive by empty philosophies which are not in alignment with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Micah 7
As we conclude our study on the book of Micah, there are five practical lessons we can learn from the prophet’s message to Judah. God is inviting His people to return to Him and to seek Him with all of our hearts and to do the things which please Him. God is looking for people who will both seek and obey Him in everything. Let each of us respond in the right way with the right heart!
