As we begin this Advent series, we are reminded that God will never abandon His people! Just as God gave a promise through the prophet Isaiah to King Ahaz that a child would be born that would be a sign that God was with him, so likewise Jesus (our Messiah) is a sign to all of us that God has come to His people. Our Immanuel has come to us, so that we too can be encouraged in times of difficulty and crisis. May we never lose hope that God’s presence remains among us, no matter the challenges we face!

Christmas is a time where we remember that God stepped into our messy, chaotic and sinful world to redeem and rescue us! As we look at the circumstances regarding Jesus’ birth, as well as his family history, we will see that God came to manifest himself in our places of challenge and difficulty. God knows how to step into a mess … full of scandal and sin, and redeem it. Because this is true, there is no circumstance that we face where God cannot do the same! Jesus became what we are, that He might make us what He is … Holy!

God knows how to keep His promises! He knows how to deliver His people at just the right time! Today we look at eight examples of how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies concerning His birth. As Galatians 4:4 makes clear … “in the fullness of time” God sent forth His son. The coming of Christ therefore activated the will of God for our inheritance. Let us remember that God is always with us, and that His timing is perfect! The entire meaning of life can be founded upon God sending us His Son (our Immanuel).

2 Corinthians 4:7–12

The problem of suffering is something of the human condition that is very difficult. But a major theme in Scripture is that God is always present with His people. Paul reminded the Corinthians that despite all of his opposition and hardships, he was never in a state of hopeless despair. Because Jesus has come to our rescue, He has promised to send us His Holy Spirit, who is with us at all times. No matter the difficulties we face, God is with us. And when we are at the end of our own strength and resources, we are not at the end of God’s!
